Happy Holidaymaker

I woke up in my own bed this morning, for the first time in a week.

Last week was spent at Disney’s Animal Kindgom Lodge in Florida and yes, I was aware of how fortunate I was, every minute of the trip.

Before we left I was out of sorts. By the time we got on the plane to come home, I was so relaxed that I wanted to shake the girl next to me who was moaning about how much she hated flying and how ‘ridiculously uncomfortable’ planes are. I wanted to ask her if she realised how lucky she was: She gets to fly off in an airplane to somewhere that would take 15 hours of continuous driving to get to; a place that would have been impossibly far for a girl like her only a hundred years ago, maybe fifty.

This morning I got up early, showered, styled my hair, put on makeup and took the boys to school. I came home and cleaned the kitchen, something I hadn’t been able to bring myself to do before we left. And now I’m heading out for breakfast with my work-shy husband while the boys slog their way through a school day.

Yeah, it’s raining and it’s cold and this time yesterday we were sitting by the pool while someone else cleaned our room and made our bed…

But I’m happy. I think I needed that break!
